The state’s fifth community archery park opens to the public in Decatur.

World-renowned archery exhibition shooter Byron Ferguson, of Hartselle, put on a demonstration of skill at the grand opening of the archery park in Decatur.
Alabama opened its fifth community archery park in late June. Archers in the Morgan County area now have a great place to shoot, and for bowhunters the park includes a range with a 12-foot high platform where you can practice like you’re shooting from a treestand.
The facility, in Decatur next to the Aquatic Center in Point Mallard Park, features 40 targets, including an eight-target adult range from 15 to 50 yards; an eight-target youth range of 5 to 20 yards; a four-target range of 10 to 40 yards with a 12-foot platform, and a 20-target walking course.
The park will be open year-round during daylight for recreational shooting, competitive tournaments and educational programming. Day use of the park is free for those younger than 16 and older than 65 years of age.
Alabamians ages 16 to 64 must have a hunting or wildlife heritage license to shoot. Non-residents must have a $16 annual WMA license or non-resident hunting license.
Alabama’s other archery parks are in Athens, Cullman, Dothan and Demopolis. Four more are under construction in Ozark, Heflin, Lincoln and Tuscaloosa.
