There are some big bass in Lake Eufaula—so many that the lake has been called as the “Bass Fishing Capital of the World.”

Now, the biggest bass ever in Eufaula is on permanent display downtown.

A historic marker placed in the same location will honor the late businessman, entrepreneur and legendary fisherman Tom Mann.

The City of Eufaula has unveiled a 10-foot, 6-inch bass statue to honor the lake’s contributions to the local economy.

Mann started Mann’s Bait Company in 1958 and later launched Humminbird Industries and Southern Plastics. His success inspired others to build fishing lure industries in the Eufaula area, and more fishing lures are manufactured there than anywhere else in the world.

The Mann historical marker says, in part, he “achieved fame as a fishing lure designer/manufacturer and helped put Lake Eufaula on the map with his popular television shows... Because of his business acumen, he made Eufaula the hub of the fishing lure industry.”

“Tom Mann contributed so much to our city and to the economy of our area,” Eufaula Mayor Jack Tibbs said. “He helped his lifelong friend, Ray Scott, start the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and finished in the top five of seven BASS Master Classics. We are so proud to be able to honor him with this marker.”
